Lighting Tips & Trends
Recently, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Graham’s Lighting design expert, Megan MacDonald. This interview was not only insightful, but so much fun! Lighting in a house can make an extraordinary difference and being able to talk with an expert in depth about all things lighting was incredible. I fell in love with so many pieces they had in the show room! Hope you enjoy Megan and my chat. If you are looking for new lighting for updates or pre-listing prep, I can’t say enough good things about this established company and their consultants. I highly recommend!
What are the current lighting trends in our market?
We are seeing a lot of organic materials in our lighting. Rattan is having a big moment. Anything from wood to leather. Wood with a touch of brass. I like to think of it as a softer beach influence. Also, mid-century modern is still going strong. A clean warm look is very popular.
What space is the most important for lighting?
I would have to say the kitchen, specifically the space over the island. It is the heart of the home. It is where everyone hangs out.
What do you feel about lighting and the design community in the Nashville market specifically?
I’m seeing lots of new influence in the area with so many people moving into Middle Tennessee. Our design community is having to rise to the occasion. We are still Southern. Southern, but haute compared to five years ago. From crystal chandeliers to mid-century. Not stuffy Southern, but rather Southern en vogue.
Is there a difference in Davidson or Williamson County design trends?
Davidson and Brentwood, we are starting to have lots of remodel work. No more room for new construction. So it’s loads of fun to play with design trends, but also make lighting choices that reflect the home owner. New builds are still going strong in Franklin and Southern Williamson County communities. They still have on-trend lighting, but a little more conservative in choices.
What is the first step if someone is wanting to make some lighting changes?
Start looking and get a feel for what you like and enjoy the process. We have several consultants here at Grahams that take the time to meet with you and get an understanding of your vision. We would love to help!
